Travelling from Johor Bahru to Kuala Lumpur has become a much more pleasant experience with Malaysia’s Electric Train Service (ETS). Instead of long highway traffic or tiring bus rides, passengers can now sit back and enjoy a smooth rail journey from JB Sentral to KL Sentral, covering a distance of about 330 kilometres.

The ETS train service connecting southern Malaysia to Kuala Lumpur began operating in December 2025, completing the electrified railway line along the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia. This modern railway service has significantly improved connectivity between Johor, Negeri Sembilan and the capital city.

The journey typically takes about 4 to 4.5 hours, depending on the number of stops. The train itself can reach speeds of up to 140 kilometres per hour, allowing travellers to cover the long distance comfortably while enjoying views of Malaysia’s countryside along the way.
Boarding at JB Sentral
The journey begins at JB Sentral, the main railway station in Johor Bahru located right next to the CIQ complex and City Square mall. Inside the station hall, passengers will find KTMB ticket counters and self-service kiosks where ETS tickets can be purchased. Tickets can also be booked online through the KTMB website or KITS mobile app.
Once boarding time approaches, passengers proceed through the departure gates to their assigned platform.

Comfortable Seats and Legroom
One of the first things you notice when boarding the ETS train is the modern and spacious interior. The seats are comfortable and arranged in a 2+2 seating layout, similar to airline economy class.
Each seat comes with a reclining function, giving passengers extra comfort for the four-hour journey. There is also ample legroom, making it easy to stretch your legs even on a long ride.
For those travelling with laptops or snacks, every seat is equipped with a foldable serving table, perfect for working, watching videos or enjoying a quick meal.

Power Plugs and Travel Convenience
A useful feature of the ETS train is the power socket located near the seats, allowing passengers to charge their phones, tablets or laptops during the journey. This is especially helpful for travellers heading to Kuala Lumpur for business or long trips.

Above the seats, there are overhead luggage racks where smaller bags can be stored. For larger suitcases, designated luggage areas are located at the end of each coach, ensuring passengers have enough storage space for their belongings.

Clean Toilets and Onboard Facilities
The ETS train is also equipped with clean and modern toilet facilities located between the train coaches. The toilets are spacious enough and well maintained, making the journey much more convenient for passengers travelling long distances.
The air-conditioned cabins keep the temperature comfortable throughout the trip, even during Malaysia’s hot afternoons.

Stations Along the Way
As the train departs JB Sentral, it passes through several towns along the route before reaching Kuala Lumpur. Some of the main stations include Kulai, Kluang, Segamat, Gemas, Seremban, Kajang and Bandar Tasik Selatan, before finally arriving at KL Sentral, Malaysia’s largest transportation hub.

Ticket Prices
ETS tickets between JB Sentral and KL Sentral typically cost around RM80 to RM90 for a one-way trip, depending on the train service and travel date. Compared with flights or driving, it is a convenient and reasonably priced option.
A Relaxing Way to Travel
For travelers who prefer a smooth and relaxing journey, the ETS train offers one of the most comfortable ways to travel between Johor Bahru and Kuala Lumpur. With reclining seats, power plugs, luggage space and clean facilities, the ride feels effortless — allowing passengers to simply sit back, relax and enjoy the journey north.
