HAO ZAI LAI FISH SOUP KING (NEW STALL)
Recently visited Blk 216 Bedok Food Centre & Market and decided to try Hao Zai Lai Fish Soup King, a newly opened stall that has been getting some attention.
Mixed Fish Slice & Fried Fish Soup — $6.50
This bowl comes with both sliced fish and fried fish in one serving.
The fish slices were fairly fresh, using Batam fish, which had a clean and soft texture.
However, the fried fish fillet didn’t work as well — once soaked in the soup, it became quite soggy, losing its crispness.
Personal suggestion:
Go for sliced fish soup only and skip the fried fish option.
Soup Base (Mixed Fish Soup)
The soup for this bowl did not carry a strong fish flavour.
Instead, the taste leaned more towards vegetable-based flavours, mainly from lettuce and bittergourd, which slightly overpowered the fish taste.
Overall, it tasted more like a vegetable soup than a classic fish soup.
Signature Red Snapper Fish Head Soup — $10
This was the highlight of the stall.
The soup came with several generous chunks of red snapper fish head, along with tofu and lettuce.
The broth here tasted more robust and satisfying, likely due to the fish head and bones being cooked into the soup.
Compared to the mixed fish soup, this one was far more flavourful and enjoyable.
Portion tip:
The soup portion is quite generous — small eaters can easily share one bowl with two bowls of rice.
CHAI CHEE MINCED MEAT NOODLE
After that, I moved on to Chai Chee Minced Meat Noodle, another comforting choice especially on a rainy day.
Regular Bowl $4 + Dumpling Add-On $1
The soup was flavourful and comforting, perfect for wet weather.
The dumplings were fresh, with a nice bite, and paired very well with the mee pok that I chose.
Chilli lovers take note:
Adding chilli padi really elevated the noodles — extra shiok for chilli addicts.
Note:
This stall offers soup-only noodles, no dry version available.
Red snapper fish head soup is the stronger option
Mixed fish soup is lighter, more vegetable-forward
Chai Chee Minced Meat Noodle is comforting and satisfying
