Posture Reset – 5 Moves to Fix a Desk Job Body

Hours of sitting in front of a computer can slowly reshape your body in ways you don’t notice until discomfort appears. Tight shoulders rounded upper back, stiff hips and a weak core are all common side effects of a desk-bound lifestyle. The good news is that a few simple movements can help undo much of the strain. With just five to ten minutes a day, you can restore balance, improve your posture and prevent chronic aches from building up over time.

One of the most effective exercises is the wall angel. Standing with your back flat against a wall, raise your arms to a 90-degree “goalpost” position and slowly glide them up and down. This movement opens tight shoulders, wakes up the upper back muscles, and retrains your body to maintain better alignment. A set of 15 slow, controlled reps is enough to start seeing changes when done consistently.

Glute bridges are another essential move. Sitting for long periods weakens the glutes and shortens the hip flexors, which can pull the lower back out of alignment. By lying on your back with your feet flat and lifting your hips upward, you activate the glutes and relieve pressure from the spine. Over time, this simple exercise strengthens the entire posterior chain and reduces lower-back stiffness.

Chest openers and planks work together to counteract the classic desk posture: rounded shoulders and a collapsing core. Stretching the chest gently reverses the inward pull caused by hours of hunching, while planks strengthen the muscles that hold your spine in a healthy, neutral position. Even 20–30 seconds of planking daily builds stability that carries into your sitting and standing habits.

The key to fixing desk-job posture isn’t intensity — it’s consistency. You don’t need a long workout or fancy equipment. What your body needs most is frequent movement, mindful alignment and a few minutes dedicated to reversing the effects of sitting. Practising these simple moves daily helps your spine feel supported, your shoulders more open and your energy levels noticeably higher.

Posture is a long-term investment. Move often, stretch intentionally and sit mindfully. Your future self will thank you for the habits you build today.
