Black Beauties at Gardens by the Bay: A Stunning Turkish Escape Without Leaving Singapore

Sometimes, the best journeys don’t require a passport. At Black Beauties, Türkiye comes to Singapore — one flower at a time. Singapore’s heat getting too much? Step into the Flower Dome at Gardens by the Bay and enjoy a cool, refreshing escape surrounded by stunning floral displays.

Just when you think you’ve seen every floral display possible at Gardens by the Bay, along comes Black Beauties. I am not joking, it is called Black Beauties — a breathtaking showcase that transforms the Flower Dome into a slice of Türkiye, complete with colourful hot air balloons, intricate Islamic-inspired architecture, dazzling mosaic lamps, and thousands upon thousands of beautiful blooms. Don’t come expecting fields of black flowers — the real surprise is an explosion of colours inspired by the beauty, culture and artistry of Türkiye.

Despite its intriguing name, Black Beauties is not about black flowers. Instead, the exhibition celebrates the dramatic beauty of thousands of hydrangeas and seasonal blooms, set against richly coloured Turkish-inspired architecture, intricate Islamic motifs and elegant decorative elements. The contrast between the vibrant flowers and darker ornamental backdrops creates a stunning visual spectacle that captivates visitors from the moment they enter the Flower Dome.

As we wandered deeper into the display, the Turkish influences became impossible to miss. Elegant archways, geometric latticework, decorative facades and beautifully patterned tile panels recreated the atmosphere of an Ottoman courtyard. Every corner seemed designed for photographs, with visitors happily snapping away beneath floral arches and intricate Islamic-inspired structures.

What truly steals the show, however, are the flowers themselves.

Masses of hydrangeas in shades of powder blue, lavender, soft pink and creamy white blanket the landscape like a colourful carpet. Interspersed among them are vibrant lupins, snapdragons and seasonal blooms that add bursts of colour throughout the display. Under the sunlight filtering through the Flower Dome’s glass ceiling, the flowers almost seem to glow.

This charming Turkish tea setting looks straight out of an Aladdin storybook. We were half-expecting a genie to appear! Until then, let’s pretend we’re enjoying a relaxing tea break.

Another highlight is the stunning collection of hanging mosaic lamps. Their colourful glass patterns sparkle brilliantly, creating one of the most photogenic spots in the entire exhibition. Combined with the floral displays and Turkish-inspired architecture, the setting feels wonderfully exotic yet welcoming.

Even a model Turkish Airlines aircraft makes an appearance, adding a playful touch to the travel theme and reminding visitors of Türkiye’s growing popularity as a destination known for its rich history, breathtaking landscapes and unique cultural heritage.

The towering cypress trees, Mediterranean-style landscaping and carefully curated decorations complete the illusion of being somewhere far from Singapore. For a brief moment, visitors can imagine themselves wandering through a Turkish garden, sipping tea beneath colourful lanterns and admiring centuries-old architecture.

Whether you’re a flower lover, photography enthusiast, or simply looking for a refreshing weekend outing, Black Beauties offers one of the most visually impressive floral displays to grace the Flower Dome in recent years. It’s colourful, immersive, and packed with beautiful details that reward those who take the time to slow down and explore.
